The annual USSA National Squash Championships, which will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2016, will be hosted by Wits University at the Wits Squash Complex starting on Monday 29th June with the final on Friday 3rd July.
15 Universities will be competing for the title won by the University of Johannesburg for the past 3 years. Teams comprise 3 men and 3 women and with the UJ team sporting 3 players in South Africa’s top 10 women’s ranking – Elani Landman (5), her twin Lume (8) Alexia Pienaar (9) and Ruan Olivier (23), their number 1 men’s player, the other universities will have to pull out all the stops to prevent UJ winning a fourth consecutive title.
Second seeds are Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University with University of Pretoria, winner of the title 6 times in the last decade the third seeds and the University of Stellenbosch headed by 2014 Schools Champion Aubrey Lawrence as their number 1 man.
Played first in pools of 4 with the top 2 teams moving into the A section and the bottom 2 into the B Section lots of action lies ahead. Sessions begin daily at 8h30 and 14h00.
