The Top Schools squash tournament will be played in Pietermaritzburg this weekend from Friday to Sunday and many close, exciting matches are expected.
The girls title will be a battle between the top schools with DSG, Pretoria (Northerns) and St Marys Waverley (Gauteng) fielding very strong teams. Makgoasi Peloakgosi (DSG) and Panache Sithole (St Marys) are two top ranked SA Players in U19 and 16 respectively. St Annes representing KZN and Epworth, who have been invited due to the withdrawal of Easterns will be teams who are capable of causing upsets. The following schools will also be participating: Springfield (WP), Clarendon (Border), Eunice (Free State) and Kingswood (EP). All the teams have provincial and SA ranked players.
The Boys event is also going to be very closely contested with no pre-determined definite winner. Rondebosch (WP) the defending champions will have to work hard to beat the very well balanced teams from St Andrews (Free State) and Kingswood (EP) in section 1. Section 2 will have past champions Selborne (Border) being challenged by Pretoria BHS (Northerns) and Paarl BHS (Boland). Glenwood, representing KZN and Northcliff (Gauteng) also have the ability to cause an upset to the seedings.
All the matches will be played at Epworth and Collegians courts during the week-end starting on Friday morning – the playoffs will be on Saturday afternoon with the final rounds at Epworth on Sunday morning starting at 08:00.
