“An exciting time lies ahead for squash in South Africa. Stephen Coppinger is ranked in the World’s top 20 with Shaun le Roux at number 47 and Clinton Leeuw at 92. Amongst the women, Siyoli Waters sits at 33, Milnay Louw at 65, Cheyna Tucker 82 and Alec Fuller 97. Our national men’s team finished 6th out of 32 teams at the Men’s World team championships in France in June. There is a strong group of juniors coming through with development players Wayne Sithole of Mpumulanga ranked 2 in the under 16 group and his sister, Panache aged 13 at 3 in the girls under 16.
Together with Gary Grant and his staff at Accelerate Sport’s experience, passion and drive, the future for squash in South Africa looks very positive,” said Doeg.
Exciting times do lie ahead. Mr Grant is going to be endeavouring to acquire an umbrella sponsorship for squash. An umbrella sponsorship will embrace all levels of squash : juniors, seniors, masters.
Tournaments will, understandably, be prioritised with a South African Open the cherry on the top.
