The first ever African Junior Squash Open Championships has come to an end with 127 junior players enjoying a competitive weekend of squash hosted by the University of Cape Town Squash Club.
Former World no 1 player Natalie Grainger brought out 13 players from her home club, Chelsea Piers Athletic Club which is based in Stamford, Connecticut, USA. They played in the Prince SA Open Junior tournament last week in Johannesburg and had to adapt to coastal conditions playing in Cape Town which they did very effectively.
In the Boys U19 section no 1 seed Blaine Verhage from Pretoria, ranked no 3 in South Africa in his age group defeated the no 3 seed Nathan van der Westhuyzen, ranked no 9 in SA U19 in 3 games, not dropping a game throughout the weekend. The Girls U19 section was won by Emily Rose (USA U19 no 6) beating fellow American no 3 seed Claire Aube (USA U17 no 3), who beat SAU19 no 3 Helena Coetzee in the semi-final. It was a perfect 2 weeks for Emily who won the SA Junior Open the weekend before.

- Boys U15 – Damian Groenewald (SAU14 no 2)
- Girls U15 – Jordyn Campbell (WPU16 no 1)
- Boys U13 – Luhann Groenewald (SAU13 no 1)
- Girls U13 – Emma Trauber (USA U13 no 1)
- Boys U11 – Hector Durbach (WPU11 no 3)
- Girls U11 – Julia Anderson (Gauteng U11 no 1)
