Title success in last week’s Davenport North American Open, the second PSA World Series squash event of the year, puts Egypt’s Ramy Ashour firmly at the top of the 2013 Dunlop PSA World Series Standings.
World number one Ashour celebrated his fifth successive appearance in the final at the Westwood Club in Richmond, Virginia, in dazzling style by beating English rival Nick Matthew, the world number two, 11-7, 11-8, 5-11, 11-7.
It was the reigning world champion from Cairo’s ninth PSA World Tour final appearance in a row, his 31st match win without defeat, and his second World Series title of the year – giving him maximum points in the 2013 World Series Standings, and a massive 95-point lead over Matthew!
In fact, Matthew shares second place in the latest list with Gregory Gaultier, the Frenchman who lost to the Englishman in the Richmond semi-finals – but was runner-up to Ashour in the JP Morgan Tournament of Champions, the first World Series event of the year in New York in January.
England’s world No4 James Willstrop, a semi-finalist both in Richmond and New York, is in fourth place, while Germany’s Simon Rosner and Egyptians Amr Shabana and Omar Mosaad share sixth place.
The top eight players in the Dunlop PSA World Series Standings at the end of the year qualify to compete in next January’s ATCO PSA World Series Finals in London.
