Women’s World Team Squash Championships

In their first two matches in the pool event of The Women’s World Squash Team Championships being played in Nimes, France, South Africa, seeded 14th met with mixed fortunes.
South Africa , captained by Siyoli Waters, had little difficulty in disposing of 26th seeds, Spain 3-0. Waters dropped only 14 points against the Spanish number 1, Marina de Juan winning through in straight games. New cap, Senade Haupt , a Tukkies student accounted for Christina Gomez also in straight games, while second string Milnay Louw dropped the first game against Xisela Aranda before regaining composure and winning the next three games.
In the second fixture third seeds, Malaysia did not have things all their own way against the South Africans, although winning 3-0. Nicole David , the world’s number 1, was extended to 4 games by Waters. Louw , ranked 127 in the world, then lost a closely fought 4 game tussle with Delia Arnold ranked 101 places above her before Low Wee Wern, ranked 7, accounted for Diana Haynes in straight games.
South Africa now faces 19th seeds, China, to decide the positions in the pool before the second stage of knockout matches.
