Report on USSA Squash Individual tournament top 16 players hosted by Tuks Squash 23-26 September 2021
The University of Pretoria were host to the 2021 USSA Squash Top 16 players tournament over the long weekend of the 23-26 September 2021.
20 men and 6 women representing 6 Universities entered, replacing this section which is normally played at the USSA Squash team Championships. In 2021 the USSA Squash Committee decided to split the events as the team championships taking place in December won’t provide enough time to complete this part of the event.
Kundanji Kalengo, seeded 2nd studying towards an Electrical Engineering degree at Tshwane University of Technology beat the no 1 seed Tristan Worth 3-1 in the final. Tristan who is a previous SAU19 Champion is in his first year of studies towards a Bachelor of Health Sciences Degree from North West University did well to only drop 1 game leading into the final. However Kundanji, currently playing no 1 in the Zambian National team showed his experience and speed on the court to clinch a well-earned 3-1 win.
Helena Coetzee from the University of Pretoria emerged as the Women’s Champion remaining unbeaten from 5 games, the BCom student was pushed all the way with all players taking games off of her with
Shelomi Truter studying towards a Bachelor of Health Sciences from North West University emerging 2nd.
Huge congratulations to all players for participating and many thanks to Tuks Squash for their amazing organisation of this event and to the Universities for supporting their students.
