SACD leads Northerns by one point in Women’s Growthpoint IPT A-section
The SA Country Districts women’s team will take a slender one-point lead over Northerns A when the teams shape up in the final round of the Growthpoint squash interprovincial in Pretoria/Tshwane on Friday.
SACD are the defending champions and under the leadership of SA Nationals runner-up Lizelle Muller they marched to another crushing win over Northerns B (20-3) in Thursday’s penultimate round.
This took them to a total of 77 points, but Northerns A matched with that an emphatic win of their own as they claimed full points against Midlands.
Men’s log-leaders Joburg Squash had a slight setback on Thursday when No 1 and Growthpoint SA Nationals champion Christo Potgieter suffered an injury during his clash with Northerns’ Ruan Olivier and had to retire after the second game.
Joburg, though, were still able to overcome Northerns 18-7, crucially winning two of the matches that went to five games, and will take a five-point lead over holders SACD into Friday’s deciding encounter.
SACD powered past KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday to move to 72 points, second behind Joburg Squash on 77.
