This evening saw very few upsets. In the men’s event JP Brits took control of his match against Kyle Maree by placing the ball deep and to a good length. Maree made too many errors and at no time looked like threatening Brits. Potgieter was just too clinical and fast for Worth and took only 21 minutes to proceed to the main event. Karim Magdy from Egypt made Alwyn Venter work very hard in the 1st 2 games and the third saw a very tired Venter succumb to the constant pressure from Magdy. The match of the evening was between 2 Gauteng team mates Dylan Groenewald and Makhosonke Ntuli. The match was closely contested with both players having fleeting moments of brilliance. In the end it was Groenewald’s great speed and movement that won him the match.

In the ladies section Alexa Pienaar was just too strong and sharp for Linda Shannon. Adel Sammons outran opponent Hannelize Human. Sammons kept up constant pressure and Human just seemed to fold under the pressure. Kacey-Leigh Dodd moved with ease around the court and Michelle van Zyl really seemed to be out of her depth. Dodd was never put under any pressure and cruised to a 3-0 victory. Angie Clifton-Parks caused the only upset of the evening by beating Christine Ferreira 3-0. Clifton-Parks slowed the down the ball and did not give Ferreira the opportunity to play her fast hard hitting game. Ferreira seemed to be completely frustrated by the lob and drop game of Clifton-Parks.
