In the PSA Men’s main draw Oliver Pett (ENG) required 60 minutes to beat local hero and defending champion Shaun Le Roux in a an epic final that was watched by a packed crowd of enthusiastic supporters. The first game lasted 22 minutes with Oliver winning 11-9, followed by 11-5 and a nail biting 12-10 in the 3rd with Shaun a few game points up not able to finish off the game. Credit to Oliver for remaining patient and forcing the error with intense pressure squash. Oliver gave an emotional response at the prize giving thanking various sponsors and friends for all their support over the past year, which has been the toughest one for him, special mention of his mother who is fighting cancer in England.
In the WSA main draw Siyoli Waters demonstrated her no 1 seeding and her fondness of this event, still not dropping a game in 2 years, and continuing her winning streak winning 3-0 in 26 minutes against exciting Egyptian the no 3 seed Salma Nassar. Siyoli was complementary of her opponent in the after match interview crediting her for starting each game better than her and putting the reigning Champion under a lot of pressure.
In the Open A section, Ahmed Effat Ashoush from Egypt beat SA top junior Luke Willemse in the final 3-0, with the final game a marathon 17-15 to Ashoush. Sharon Bender was too good for Ria Kennerley in the Women’s Final winning 3-0.
